To Ted Stevens from Illinois: Go F$$$ Yourself.

Thu Dec 22, 2005 at 09:17:10 AM PDT

According to today's Sun-Times article Senator Ted Stevens (AK) had this to say on the Senate floor:

Tossing a glance across the aisle at Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), who had denounced the drilling measure, Stevens grumbled, ''I asked for his apology once; I wouldn't accept it now.''

Well you're not going to get one.  No one cares about your ANWR drilling except your 600,000 constituents and your corporate-oil-overlords.  To attach this to a defense and Katrina-relief bill is an abuse of power than even Senators in your own party denounced and have today defeated.  Instead of repeating the same old bullshit energy proposals why don't you get a clue and start fighting for real energy independence so that your state doesn't melt away.

''I hope the good lord will help me keep my temper,'' Stevens, the one wearing the Incredible Hulk necktie, said just before Democrats and two Republicans blocked a vote on the package.

Well I wonder what your lord thinks of cutting aid for the poor and students in a time of war?  Oh and how much did they pay you to wear the Hulk-tie?  Or do you really liken yourself to him while your party controls all three branches of the Federal Government?

Dick Durbin is a real federal Senator.  He has more than just his constituents concerns at heart, but of the entire nation and world.  His Lord is a moral compass that would never allow him to do the things this current Republican leadership is doing in the name of Christ and our country.

  •  I'll second that (4.00 / 3)

I'm in Chicago and Dick Dubin should be asking for an apology from Stevens for WASTING everyone's time trying to drill for oil in ANWR.

  •  Stevens is pitiful... (none / 0)

Exxon and BP will be building a natural gas pipeline from Alaska across Canada to Chicago.  If Stevens is so pissed at Durbin, I'd like to see him place politics before economics and divert that natural gas elsewhere.

He won't.  Stevens works for the energy companies and the energy companies know their markets.  He's a whore, plain and simple.  He may grumble about Durbin now, but he will be kissing Durbin on both cheeks if he lives long enough to cut the ribbon on a trans-Canada natural gas pipeline.

God, who gave man scabies, also gave him hands to scratch them.

    •  Battle of Pipelines and Dinosaurs (none / 0)

Watch out on this, Bill.  Stevens + co wants the pipeline diverted to the Pacific so they can sell the stuff worldwide and make more $.  Oddly enough, House Speaker Hastert (from IL) is behind the pipeline to the Midwest, which is a slightly better alternative, since US taxpayers would be shelling out subsidies for the pipeline.

But these are two variations of dinosaurs.  The best thing would be investing in a network of biofuel and hydrogen fuel pipelines centered in the Midwest that would more efficienct transfer the growing product.  This would be combined with a larger wind and solar market that would eventually supply hydrogen.  It would take longer and cost more, but be operating long after the oil and gas fields are played out.

  •  Stevens is neurotic (none / 0)

He's a classic passive-aggressive. Wimpering one minute and vowing vengance upon his opponents the next. How many times this year has he suggested he was going to quit if he didn't get his way?

The way he's going, he may be taking hostages on floor by this time next year.

All his kvetching, for what? His constituency represents .25% of the U.S. population, and he's got to share THAT with Mirkowski (sic?).

And, for those who don't know, this nutcase is right behind Hastert, and Cheney in the line of succession. Dream those impeachment dreams, but a perfect storm of Cheney indictment, Bush impeachment and Hastert sold up the river by an Abramoff plea - we could have President Stevens.

... Alaska will trend more Democratic.  When is Stevens up for re-election?  It would be better to see an asshat like him get kicked out of office, than retire.

Dream those impeachment dreams, but a perfect storm of Cheney indictment, Bush impeachment and Hastert sold up the river by an Abramoff plea - we could have President Stevens.

I think that would be fun!  Every time anybody opposed him on anything, he could throw a tantrum and hold his breath until he turned blue.  We could have betting pools on the next time he threatened to resign, and what comic book character tie he'd wear next.

because he thinks his projects are the most important things in the world, and gets tons of pork to spread out over a small population. He's got no sense of responsibility for the entire country.

        Hey, how's it going?

Uh, I "care" about it? I said it. I stand by my first comment. And if this: my point is this shouldn't even be a national issue if not for the dreams of already rich oil-men. is your point--well, tht's hard to argue. And here's to the good people I lived and worked with in Alaska.

  •  I watched the senior senator (none / 0)

on c-span. I was determined after hearing his tirade, to send him an e-mail. I thought it might be best for me to hold up for 24 hours, an cool down....but no, the only thing that has changed is that rather than the message being lost in his office, I'm posting it here for all to see.
Mr. Steven's, please take a long walk on an imaginary bridge, and don't come back!
  •  What a Assclown... (none / 0)

What did he mean by "I asked for his apology"..?

Apology for what?  For voting his crap down?  Even though he put it on the bill "illegally" (i.e., according to Senate protocol)?

Stevens has become a national punchline.  Hope y'all up there in 'aska like this tird you've voted in about 10 billion times.  Enjoy your 250 mill BRIDGE.  that's the last huge chunk of scratch this Congress is going to give your sorry state for transpo, so when your roads break down...hope you can raise the state tax.
