Sticking Out at Daily Kos: Be Yourself.

In the real world, these just people with ideas
They just like me and you when the smoke and camera disappear
Again the real world (world), it's bigger than all these fake ass records

    We all know the frustration of going unnoticed.  Whether it's the time you cleaned your room without your mom even asking, the time you cooked their favorite meal before being dumped for "not trying," or that Daily Kos diary that perfectly explains why Judith Miller deserves jail or worse.  It sucks, but you know what, we've all been there.  And at the end of the day no matter how horrible Judith Millers reporting has been and whether or not it's responsible for the starting a war of choice: she has been to the war-zone, most of us have not; she has been to jail, most of us have not; and she has a special prosecutor breathing down her neck, most of us are relatively spoiled Americans.  So what have most of us done?

    Well I don't know!  That's what the diaries are for.  Can you really look at the hundreds of diaries by Jerome or Meteor Blades and say your diary deserves to be recommended or even read?  I know my writing is too scattered to make sense, that's what comes with being a college-student versus an energy banker: wait your turn, one day you'll know enough to write quality diaries about any number of subjects.


    Any number of us could have started Daily Kos, but there in lies the beauty: Markos Moulitsas did, we didn't.  Is it just a coincidence his name doesn't rhyme with "cause"? Yes!  Is it a reason this site is so successful?  Probably, but only a small part compared to the daily contributions of thousands over the years.  Daily Kos should be a compliment to your life: not a replacement for it.  If you're sad or angry tell us about it: this is a very caring and understanding community and will respond as such.  But if you're depressed or feeling violent you're better off seeking help in the "real" world than writing a diary here.


    I would like to close with an over-the-top metaphor:  Christopher Columbus, everyone's favorite scapegoat.  Columbus has changed the world forever, and even has his own holiday, but he died poor, alone, and miserable as he deserved.  The megalomania behind men like Christopher Columbus, Bill O'Reilly, and George W. Bush is what drives them, but do you want to be like them?  Do you want to be the guy with a list of whiny diaries about how no-one cares what you think?  If so please do leave because you and your ilk are the only kind of person not welcome here.
