Ed Shultz lets T.Boone pull a fast one on you

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 10:41:45 AM PDT

Earlier this week, Ed Shultz had on T.Boone Pickens to talk about his 'Pickens Plan.' I listened to the show and was O.K. with most of what Mr.Pickens said. A lot of people were upset with Ed for having a guy who funded the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, which if he had not helped to fund, might have gotten us off of foreign oil 4 years ago with a Kerry - Edwards victory. But that is not the real issue.

New McBush ad: "There are some things that money can't buy"

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 10:10:45 AM PDT

I got inspiration from one of the comment that I found on politicalwire about super rich confused McCain not remembering how many houses he owns. I modified it to this new version of "There are some things that money can't buy" ad.

$100 for a makeover to look young

$520 for black leather Ferragamo Italian shoes

$28,500 in campaign donations from Hess Oil executives after changing mind to allow oil drilling

$50,000 for speechwriter who can attack 'hope'

$58,000 per year of taxpayers money in disability payments

$200,000 expense on "household staff" in 2007

$300,000 from Keating Five

continued after the fold..

MO-09 poll: Judy Baker (D) leads in Bush +19 District

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 10:04:40 AM PDT

A Momentum Analysis poll shows Judy Baker with a slim 41% to 39% lead over Blaine Luetkemeyer for the MO-09 open House seat.

Baker has a 30% favorability to 8% unfavorabilty rating and has higher favorability than unfavorability even among Republican voters (especially Republican women).

Luetkemeyer's favorability is 33% to 16% unfaovarbility.

This is a District that was Bush +19 in 2004 and that the Republican Hulshof won 61% to 36% in 2006.

The poll was an internal Democratic poll conducted by Momentum Analysis. In the primaries Momentum analysis gave Baker a 6 point lead over Gaw in their only internal poll of the primary (she won by 13 in that race).

Drill here, Drill Now!

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 09:54:47 AM PDT

In debate jargon, there is a term called a "Turn" where you use an opponents argument against them to effectively prove your point. It's time for Democrats to turn the energy debate in an immediate, simple and effective way.

confirmed! PUMA lied about Hillary Clinton debt!

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 09:44:50 AM PDT

Here is some video of the PUMA spokespeople lying:

And remember Will Bower's "we don't need Obama- we have it," bull? Yes, of course you do, it was THAT laughable.

More on his money lies:

Well, now we can OFFICIALLY say that Will Bower was FULL OF IT! How can pumas sit back and allow this man to lie while they kiss his feet?! Ugh, I suppose when you're buds with Andy Martin and Jerome Corsi there is no level of stooping that you won't go to.

Kucinich in 'NYT' this coming Sunday warns of Iran attack

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 09:11:59 AM PDT

In an interview to be published in The New York Times this Sunday, Rep. Dennis Kusinich continues to  make the case for impeachment – especially amid the Russia/Georgia crisis – as well as arguing for Democrats to come together to back Obama.

Asked why he continues calling for impeachment, Kucinich responds, "This president is capable of taking us into war, in October, on the eve of an election, to try to change the outcome of the election...

"The events in Georgia are a premonition...of an attack on Iran.  When Georgia moved against South Ossetia as the Olympics are starting, the Bush administration begins its own Olympics – the war Olympics."

Obama/Dems Smell Blood: Two Gaffes = Major Problem for McCain [UPDATED X 3]

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 08:24:27 AM PDT

There've been diaries on this, but piling on is the point.

McCain's two gaffes in the last week--his inability to remember how many homes he owns and his expressed belief that people worth 4.9 million are middle class--are an enormous gift to Obama. And Dems, for a change, seem to smell blood.

I.O.U.S.A. Tonight

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 08:03:48 AM PDT

I did a search here on Daily Kos to see if any diaries had been written about the new documentary I.O.U.S.A.  (Click to find a theater near you.)  I was shocked not to find any.

CNN Money has been promoting the movie.  After the documentary tonight, there will be a live discussion with Warren Buffett and Pete Peterson.  We all know Warren Buffett.  Pete Peterson is the Senior Chairman of the private equity firm, the Blackstone Group and was a Commerce Secretary under Richard Nixon.

I will be attending my local showing tonight and I am urging other Kossacks to attend as well.  Even given my concerns that I will enumerate after the jump.

Breaking Video- New Obama Ad On McCain's Homes

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 08:03:35 AM PDT

Dude, I just wanted to get this out there. I'll add more. It was uploaded to youtube 7 minutes ago, I stumbled on it by accident.

Script via FleetAdmiralJ

Maybe you're struggling just to pay the mortgage on your home, but recently John McCain said that the fundamentals of our economy are strong.

Hmm.  Then again, that same day, when asked how many houses he owns, McCain lost track.  He couldn't remember.  Well, it's seven.  Seven houses. (show White House on screen) And here's one house America can't afford to let John McCain move into.

A tiny ripple of Hope

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 07:16:53 AM PDT

"It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope." -Robert F. Kennedy

Running for Congress as a full time school teacher with a family is not easy. In fact, I count on your support and inspiration more than you know. Because this election for North Carolina's 8th District is so important, and you are so important to me, I thought I'd share one decision I made earlier this week I hope will help bring us to victory in November.

Obama Takes Gloves Off: UPDATE x4 NEW AD (w/VIDEO!)

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 06:32:30 AM PDT

And now for some good news: Barack Obama and the Democrats are taking their gloves off.

This morning on CNN, Paul Begala of all people made a good point, that nothing unites a group like the definition of a common enemy.  That enemy is John McCain and the Republicans, and it looks as though the Democrats are waking up to how much fodder this guy keeps giving us.  As Tom cataloged today, Obama's language is getting tougher and more progressive.  He was asked about this by Time Magazine:

TIME: Your speeches seem to be getting far tougher.

OBAMA: Well, it's getting to be crunch time.

I watched it so you don't have to.

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 06:27:54 AM PDT

In a 3 hour marathon last night, CNN devoted an hour and a half to each of the life stories of the two major candidates for President.

The Obama segment featured clips we have all seen, along with some new, and flattering information.  The only thing they could find to say that smacked of "negative" was a comment from a Chicago print reporter, and Obama biographer, that his initial foray into politics was "cut throat".  That was followed by 3 different people saying "That's the way politics is played".

McCain - I don't know how many houses I own *Obama responds with a new ad!*

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 03:52:27 AM PDT

Update ((Please keep digging the article, and see Obama's new ad below. That was pretty fast, kudos to the campaign.))

Politico:

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said in an interview Wednesday that he was uncertain how many houses he and his wife, Cindy, own.

"I think - I'll have my staff get to you," McCain told us in Las Cruces, N.M. "It's condominiums where - I'll have them get to you."

The correct answer is at least four, located in Arizona, California and Virginia, according to his staff. Newsweek estimated this summer that the couple owns at least seven properties.

He's just giving this stuff away. I feel like we can safely do ad-lib attacks now. Just put an issue (mortgage crisis) and a McCain quote together, and voila!

Everybody telling Obama what he "needs"

Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 11:29:31 PM PDT

Never saw anything like this. I went to Real Clear Politics tonight, and here's the top three headlines they're featuring, all in a row:

Obama: In Need of a Game Changer - David Gergen, CNN
Conventions Need a Believable Script - Karl Rove, Wall Street Journal
Obama Needs a Narrative - Steven Stark, Boston Phoenix

All of the sudden, everybody and his little dog is telling Obama what he needs, including Karl Rove.

Well, thank you all for your concern. But I already know what Obama needs, I already said so in a diary earlier this week--and thank God some people at the Obama campaign woke up and now agree. Look at this:

Countdown with Keith Olbermann - August 20, 2008

Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 06:22:38 PM PDT

I guess I'm feeling a little "saucy" (or mustardy) tonight; I didn't realize it until diary prep. So, advanced apologies if I seem a little hyper.

There’s 76 days until the Election and, hopefully, a new "Independence Day!"

Today's "day in history" is a rather notorious one; there was not a whole lot of "sweetness & light" to be found. On this date in 1989 (the year I graduated from high school), Lyle & Erik Menendez murdered their parents. And, if you've seen the crime scene photos, by golly, they were through!

On a much, much, much, MUCH happier note, hugs, kisses, smooches, & all that good stuff to F.O.O. who asked Keith to drop by here in his "Rachel" diary. I'm very touched by that; thank you! This sweetness more than made up for the upsidedown & backwards posts from last night after I left. WTF was that stuff??!! Do you have ANY IDEA how jarring it was to "read" that when I hadn't been properly caffeinated or, hell, even after proper caffeination?! Son of a .... *&^%$#@!

So, with begging & pleading for y'all not to post upsidedown & a$$backwards anymore [insert image of me on my knees begging here], let's Countdown with Keith & the gang!

"Quick Draw John" -- McCain's new moniker courtesy of Richard Clarke

Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 06:15:41 PM PDT

Seth Colter Walls has a fascinating article over at HuffPo, entitled

Richard Clarke: "Quick Draw John" McCain Wanted War Before Bush Did

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...

Former NSC advisor to the Bush administration, Richard Clarke, dubbed John McCain "Quick Draw John" for his eagerness to go to war with Iraq in the days right after 9-11 -- even before Bush had made up his mind.

The Walls article is filled with interesting tidbits relating to a campaign conference call focusing on national security. But the money quote is the moniker "Quick Draw John", which sounds like something we want to keep repeating every time McCain's experience is mentioned.

"Statistical Noise": Why Newsweek Magazine Says DON'T WORRY About These Tightening Poll Numbers

Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 03:26:00 PM PDT

In a remarkable display of Battered Progressive Syndrome, the "Kos-o-sphere" exploded in recrimination, backbiting and furor over the Zogby poll and others showing Obama slipping away and McCain winning the election.

Well, Newsweek Magazine blogger Andrew Romano interviewed a political scientist about the Zogby poll and others.

The takeaway message to Kossacks is: Calm Down!

Now that the 2008 Presidential election is officially over...

Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 03:17:52 PM PDT

Well, too bad about the whole Obama thing, huh?

Apparently the 2008 election for President ended today when the always reliable Zogby announced that John McCain will be elected over two months from now by 5%.

This is a HUGE relief for me because I was worried I might have to spend the fall making phone calls for Barack Obama and giving money to Barack Obama and maybe even flying somewhere on election day to go door to door for Barack Obama, but now that the election is over my family and I are freed up to go on our semi-annual, cross-country, tour of cities that claim to be the "Cheese Capitol" of America.
